mom-mode post #151- on remaking furniture

I have a problem. I love the DIY section of Design Sponge. Well, it’s a little more than love. I’m slightly addicted. Only slightly though.
It really isn’t that bad. It’s not like when I’m walking pass a used furniture shop I don’t mentally come up with ideas of what I’d do if I got my hands on that purple velvety victorian-ish chair.
Good thing the husband encourages me in my crazy furniture remaking endeavors. He has carried many a couch up the stairs. We live on the third floor. He’s that awesome.
My latest DIY project? It used to be a very beat up vanity that only cost about 12 bucks, including delivery. It had sat neglected in our guest bedroom for over a year, until I finally got my hands on it last week. I don’t have a sanding machine (yet), so it took me two days to sand all of it. I wish I had a before picture, but I was too excited to get started and forgot.
After much sanding and much dust, I just stained with a light cedar stain. Now I have a beautiful new console table for my dining room. I still want to find some nicer knobs, but for now the old ones will do. I just love how old and beat up it looks, but in a nice, organized, clean way.
I have to say this is one of the most relaxing, stress-releasing, therapeutic things I could ever do.
